One of the things I love most about shooting families is how different each one looks. And how dynamic they are. What a family looks like in front of my camera one year might completely change if I shoot that family again the next year. They are fluid and moving, changing and growing, not only in numbers but in love and experiences. And all of those things are what makes a family so interesting to capture in photographs. This exact time in their story. This moment, what does this family look like right this moment. What are they going to remember about this time in their history? And how can I capture that for them? These are the questions I ask.
We got to meet Kate and Nate up in Raleigh, NC for a session where we wandered all around a cute little neighborhood laughing and talking and looking for great light. Kate and Nate have a special place in my heart. They told us the story of how they got married in secret and didn’t tell anyone for a long time. Which I just love. They took marriage and brought it down to it’s most basic and beautiful form- a commitment to each other. No fluff. And since then, they’ve been building a life together. It was so lovely to get to peek into their family for a few hours. Kate is a talented photographer herself, which made this time even more special. I love getting to shoot for other artists!
